MISSION: To open master's and doctoral programs in order to meet the needs of qualified faculty members of our university and other developing universities' faculties and colleges providing undergraduate education and to ensure that these programs are carried out with modern tools and equipment in accordance with the requirements of the age, to help students who have completed their undergraduate education to improve themselves as individuals who produce science by increasing their knowledge and skills after graduation and make the science they produce productive, and to help them find jobs with better opportunities in a competitive market.
OUR VISION: To open programs to raise individuals who can adapt to the globalizing world, prioritize scientific thinking, and are equipped with up-to-date professional knowledge and to provide a suitable educational environment for the execution of these programs, to train staff with sufficient knowledge to be able to project and carry out a research in their field and to evaluate the data obtained from them.
OUR QUALITY APPROACH: Our quality approach is to focus on keeping the success criteria of the students high at every stage from the admission to the programs until their graduation and ensuring the coordination among the departments in increasing the quality of the educational environment.
OPPORTUNITIES: All graduate schools within Erciyes University are located in the Nuri and Zekiye HAS Graduate Schools building and an area of approximately 1500 m2 has been allocated to the Graduate School of Health Sciences in this building. In this area, there are administrative offices affiliated to the management and classrooms and a conference hall for 110 people for common use. 7 computers with internet connection are available to students. The institute has a library with Master's and Doctoral theses, journals and catalogs of various institutes. Most of the graduates are easily employed at our university, other universities or other government institutions. The Journal of Health Sciences, which is the periodical and refereed publication of the Institute, has been published continuously for 20 years.
REGIONAL RELATIONS: Most of the students studying at the graduate school are from Kayseri and nearby provinces. The thesis studies in progress are primarily selected from topics based on regional problems. In the proficiency and thesis defense exams of doctoral students, one principal and one substitute faculty member from the relevant departments of other universities are invited to the exam as a jury member. Students studying in the programs of some of our departments take courses from the relevant departments of the surrounding universities. Students from neighboring universities also take courses from the Master's and Doctorate programs of our departments. Graduate Schools of Health Sciences meeting is held once a year in Turkey and the directors of the graduate school are participating in this meeting. Our graduate school undertook the organization and management of the 7th graduate school of Health Sciences Directors meeting held in 1995.
STUDENT APPLICATIONS: Every year in July-August and December-January, students are admitted to graduate programs for fall and spring semesters by announcing student quotas and exam dates with a press release.
EDUCATION: The graduate and doctorate education at the institute is carried out in line with the aims and principles of the Higher Education Law No. 2547, within the framework of the provisions of the "Regulation on Organization and Operation of Graduate Education and Training Institutes" and "Postgraduate Education and Training Regulation". There are three different education programs within the Institute, namely scientific preparation, master's and doctorate. Both doctoral and graduate students were provided with the opportunity to take English lessons three half days a week as an elective course in order to improve their foreign language. In the scientific preparation program, a course on computer use was opened, enabling students to improve their knowledge on this subject. Firstly, as of the fall semester of the 2010-2011 academic year, English I and II courses for graduate and doctoral program students have been opened at our institute, and again, for the first time in 2010-2011 academic year graduate and doctorate programs, Experimental Animals and Application Methods course was opened and students were provided with a certificate on the subject.
SCIENTIFIC PREPARATION: It is a pre-graduate education program. Students who qualify for a master's degree in any department of the institute, but who have received a bachelor's degree in a different branch must successfully complete at least six of the courses conducted within the scope of this program before starting their master's education. The normal duration of the scientific preparation program is one semester and the maximum duration is two semesters.
MASTER'S DEGREE: It is a program that requires preparing and presenting a successful thesis in at least one year after successfully completing at least one year of course.
DOCTORATE: It is a program that requires preparing and presenting a successful thesis in a period of two years after successfully completing at least one and a maximum of two-year course period.
EDUCATION-TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES: Most of the courses in the programs are carried out in institute classrooms, while the practices are carried out in the laboratories of the departments. At the graduate school, there are four classrooms, a meeting room, a seminar hall, a library and a conference hall for 110 people used jointly with other graduate schools. An internet room has been allocated to the students and research assistants of the Institute to search for sources and access information during their course and thesis studies. Computers at the graduate school are connected to the University Information Technology Center with the "Online" system. Student loans are given by the Higher Education Credit and Hostels Institution, provided that they have suitable conditions. Financial support is provided for the project expenses by the University Research Fund for the students who are in the stage of thesis project, and the research assistant staff can be allocated to the successful students who do not work anywhere, to the extent possible. As of 01.01.2017, there are currently 27 research assistants in the staff of the Institute, 50 of whom are (D) and ÖYP members.
SOCIAL OPPORTUNITIES OFFERED TO STUDENTS: Students can benefit from university dining halls and from the dormitories belonging to the Credit and Hostels Institution for accommodation and receive scholarships from the Credit and Hostels Institution. In addition, food scholarships are given to our students within the quota allocated to our graduate school. Provided that they meet the conditions and pass the exam, they can work in the graduate school as a permanent staff during their education at the graduate school and participate in all social activities carried out within the university.
FACULTY MEMBERS: As of 01.01.2017, education in the departments of the graduate school is carried out by a total of 228 lecturers, including 101 professors, 69 associate professors, 54 assistant professors and 4 doctoral lecturers. In addition, a total of 14 faculty members, 5 of whom are Professors, 4 are Associate Professors and 5 are Assistant Professors from neighboring universities have been assigned to teach in the Master’s and Doctorate Programs within the scope of the Article 40(d) of the Higher Education Law No. 2547. Faculty members received their academic titles (master's and doctorate) from Erciyes University or other domestic universities or some foreign universities (Nottingham Univ., Glasgow University., Justus-Liebig Univ., London Univ., East Anglia Univ, Bristol Univ. Brussels Univ.)
PUBLICATIONS OF THE GRADUATE SCHOOL: Erciyes University Journal of Health Sciences, which is the publication of the graduate school, is published three times a year. The journal, in which Turkish and English articles are accepted, was published in 25 volumes from 1990 to 01.01.2017. Special issue of Nursing was also published in 2005 due to 12 May Nurses Day. In addition, as the Institute publication, "Graduate Education Guide and Thesis Writing Guide", "Thesis Abstracts Book 2001", "Thesis Abstracts Book 2005", "Erciyes University Health Sciences Institute 2001 Catalog", "Erciyes University Health Sciences Institute 2005 Catalog "and" Thesis Writing Guide" have been published.
SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITIES: 7th Graduate School of Health Sciences Directors meeting of Turkey was organized by Erciyes University Graduate School of Health Sciences, and at this meeting, topics on "Development, Regulations and Problems of Graduate Education in Health Sciences" were discussed, suggestions were offered and discussed. Conferences and seminars are organized throughout the year by invited guest lecturers from both Erciyes University and other universities.
